Welcome
to the GTK+ Foundation Classes |
The
GTK+
Foundation Classes are an integrated set of C++ classes for
developing GTK+ applications on UNIX-like systems such as
Linux. The classes are designed to work nicely with the GNU tool chain
and take
advantage of the standard C++ features provided by the GNU compiler.
Currently there are three modules in the GFC development platform, the
core object system and utility library
(GFC-Core), the user interface library (GFC-UI) and a binding for the
GNOME Configuration
System (GFC-GConf). |

|
GFC-Core
wraps the GLib object system and selected
objects from the GLIb utility library. Essentially it provides a
low level object system that can be used to build other libraries.
GFC-UI and GFC-GConf both depend on this library. GFC-Core
uses the new libsigc++ 2.0
callback library to implement a system of signals and slots which
make using
native GObject signals or creating your own signals easy. There
is a
standard string compatible UTF-8 string class, reference documentation
and several example programs. |

The GFC-UI Library

GFC-UI
combines
the power of GTK+ and the power of
C++ into a state-of-the-art graphical user interface toolkit that makes
developing
GTK+ applications in C++ easy, intuitive and efficient. There are more
than 420
classes that wrap most of the objects found in the ATK, GDK,
GDK-PIXBUF, GTK and Pango
libraries. Included is a full set of simple
example programs, a C++ version of the GTK+ widget demonstration
program,
extensive reference documentation and a tutorial. |

The GFC-GConf Library

GFC-GConf is
the third module
in the GTK+ Foundation Classes. GFC-GConf is a binding for GConf, the
GNOME Configuration System. GFC-GConf makes accessing the
GConf database from your GFC applications easy and intuitive. Its API
and documentation are complete and it comes with several examples.
